All the charm of a Breton Manor near the seaside and Dinan

A stone’s throw from the sea and a few kilometres Dinan, come and relax in this historic setting full of charm, elegance, and tradition… In days gone by, the Manoir du Plessix Madeuc was passed down from one generation to the next, the noble residence of the Madeuc family, one of the oldest in the region, a name meaning ‘charitable’ in Breton. The main entrance is topped by a triangular pediment with the family coat of arms for Gaudemont de la Monforière, the owners in the 18th century, there is a square tower with an impressive wooden spiral staircase, single-leaf and double-leaf doors, immense fireplaces soaring to high ceilings with ancient beams, and the bell-tower and sculpture of épi Frédéric that Bérénice and Olivier Dupuy will happily tell you about.

Modernity, youth and contemporary art… Nowadays, the apartments of the tower are home to young artists, painters and photographers for three months each year, and these contemporary works harmonise beautifully with the old stones, breathing new life into them.  Here are the Manoir du Plessix-Madeuc, Contemporary Art achieves recognition.

Spontaneity, enthusiasm and nature… A pathway of roses and a rose garden of ancient varieties, a double-entry, fenced well, a pond filled with water-lilies where frogs croak at twilight, plum trees and pears, cherries and apples, a kitchen garden with fresh herbs and salads, and – with a bit of luck – an egg or two from Dolce and Vita, the two hens with bright plumage that peck peaceably around the grounds, under the watchful eye of Flex, a happy dog who takes his role as guardian very seriously.

A charming Family Suite

This spacious 60m² suite comprises two bedrooms and one bathroom¸ facing south on the 1st floor of the Manor, with views across the grounds and ornamental lake. It can accommodate a couple and a child. The atmosphere in this apartment, thanks to its superb oak 17th-century parquet, is truly authentic.

LE LOGIS, 2pp max, 2nd floor

A vast apartment

Located on the 2nd floor, this single-storey apartment was once where the master of the house would take his rooms.  You enter through a large, 40m² rooms featuring a beautiful granite fireplace, as well as oak beams crossing the ceiling. Passing the kitchen, you take three steps up to a bedroom with a monastic feel. All the flooring is natural stone from Burgundy as are the tiles in the bathroom. This décor, focussing on fine materials immediately appeals through its simplicity and authenticity.

A welcoming duplex

This ground-floor duplex has an entrance hall leading into a corridor, off which you access two bedrooms separated by a shower room with walk-in shower in natural slate. The first bedroom is for a couple, south-facing with its own outdoor terrace, flower-filled and peaceful. Upstairs, a large 50m² living space is dominated by a splendid period fireplace in granite. To the side, a sociable kitchen area is well equipped. The walls are limestone-washed contrasting with the oak beams and terracotta-toned floors giving the apartment an authentic and welcoming ambiance.

LA PASSERELLE, 5pp max, 3rd floor

An exceptional loft apartment

This 90m² apartment on the 3rd floor of the Tower is resolutely modern and comfortable. You’ll love the feel of this loft that has a large living space overlooking the surrounding countryside, an open-plan kitchen, a bathroom with walk-in shower and a truly peaceful bedroom. A wonderful metal staircase created by a local craftsman leads to the mezzanine where you’ll find 2 single beds. There are exposed 17th-century timbers throughout the apartment, giving it an exceptional character.
